History of Buds
Founded in 1978 by Bud Johnson in Douglasville, Georgia, the business originated with Bud’s passion and love for the 190SL which quickly evolved into a specialty for the 113 and 107 chassis. He was known and loved by many, and we still have some of Bud’s original customers bringing their cars to this day.
In the 1980s, the business moved into the first shop space where Bud continued selling parts and servicing classic SLs until his passing in 1996. His legacy and commitment to excellence lived on when David, who had worked alongside Bud for years, purchased the business with his wife, Sandy.
After a couple years in to what we know as the “old building”, we expanded into a larger facility in Douglasville, continuing to provide expert restoration, parts, and service for classic Mercedes-Benz SL models.
Today, with more than 40 years of restoration experience, we remain dedicated to not only our original customer base, but all the others we have got along the way
Our two lead mechanics began working on these cars at just 16 years old
Jeff, who started with and still continues to do upholstery, trim, and electrical.
Whether you need your seats recovered, dash restored, or entire interior overhauled - this is what he does best.
Brad has been doing everything mechanical since the beginning, which gives the expertise and ability to do anything that is needed for your classic Benz, from an oil change, to and engine replacement.
Now they proudly carry the business forward, combining decades of hands-on expertise and a passion to continue being of service to these cars, and the community.
